Kansas City’s mayor wants the Royals to stay in the city

Kansas City is working to make sure their baseball team doesn’t leave the city’s borders.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and the 12 members of the city council wrote a letter to Royals owner John Sherman expressing a “strong desire” for the team to stay in the city, according to a TV station in Kansas City.

One of the proposed sites for a new stadium is in downtown KC while the other is in North Kansas City, who has been lobbying hard for the organization to build their new stadium just north of the Missouri River.

The letter was also sent to Chiefs President Mark Donovan, and the money generated by the sales tax would be used to make upgrades to Arrowhead Stadium.

Kauffman Stadium’s current lease goes through 2031.
