54 workers laid off at boat plant in Missouri

Yamaha Motor U.S.A., the parent company of G-3 Boats, has cut the positions at its plant in southern Missouri’s Lebanon.

According to Martin Peters, with Yamaha Motors, the economic climate is affecting the market...

Martin Peters tells Newstalk KZRG:  “The industry, in the previous quarter, was down 13%. Overall, we believe that's occurring in part because of high interest rates that consumers who purchase a lot of boats are reluctant to have the high payments that result from high interest rates. So, that is what is affecting the entire market and certainly G-3,” he says.

Peters says he does not know if the layoffs are permanent.
