Two charged after alleged assault, burglary at Joplin home

Two men have been arrested after an alleged assault and burglary early Monday morning in Joplin. Read more from the Joplin Police Department below:
On September 25, 2023, at approximately 01:42 a.m., the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 report of a first-degree burglary at a home near 11th Street and Moffet Avenue in Joplin.
An adult female caller reported her ex-boyfriend, along with an accomplice, broke into her home and assaulted her boyfriend. During the assault, the victim retrieved a knife and used it to defend himself.
Both suspects fled the residence, with one having severe injuries. It was determined that the suspects left the scene in a vehicle and one suspect was dropped off at Freeman Hospital. The second suspect fled the hospital.
The first suspect, who is identified as Alexander E. Freer, age 31 of Joplin, is currently in critical condition at Freeman Hospital. Freer is currently in police custody and charges are being forwarded to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office for Burglary in the 1st Degree and Assault in the 3rd Degree.
Shortly after 12:00 p.m., an officer on patrol observed the second suspect walking on foot near 32nd Street and Indiana Avenue and was able to take him into custody without incident. He has been identified as Jesse L. Albright, age 28 of Oronogo, Missouri. Charges for Burglary in the 1st Degree and Assault in the 3rd Degree are also being sought on Albright.
The names of the victims involved are being withheld at this time.
