Kansas highway deaths down compared to previous year

There are fewer people dying on the highways in Kansas.

Preliminary figures as of late September show that 270 people died in traffic accidents in the Sunflower State as of September 19th of 2023.

That figure represents a 3.2 percent drop compared to the same period in 2022.

Even so, state officials say 270 is still too many.

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves office says motorists need to be intentional when driving.

That includes staying focused on the road, driving at responsible and lawful speeds and buckling up for safety.
