Kelly to commemorate the return of Sacred Red Rock

The Sacred Red Rock spent 93 years at Robinson Park in Lawrence, Kansas.

But now, thanks to a $5 million grant facilitated through the Mellon Foundation, the rock been returned to the people of the Kaw Native American Nation.

The 28-ton quartzite boulder holds deep historical, cultural and spiritual meaning to the Kaw People.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly will join Kaw National leaders, community members and University of Kansas representatives as she delivers remarks at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.

The rock has been to  Allegawaho Memorial Heritage Park, southeast of Council Grove, Kansas.
