Firefighters battle blaze in Baxter Springs

The Baxter Fire Department, along with the mutual aid from Galena, Columbus and Quapaw Fire Departments, fought a 4 alarm fire at Fellowship Baptist Church in Baxter Springs on Saturday.

Firefighters were alerted to blaze at 12th and Kansas Streets around 5 p.m.

Baxter Springs Police, EMS and Cherokee County sheriff departments and the Baxter Fire Auxiliary and the Seneca-Cayuga Fire Department also were at the scene

A Baxter Fire Department Facebook post stated, "These fire fighters not only battled against the fire in the church but the high temperatures outside made it a very long hot, draining day."

The Kansas Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.

No injuries were reported.
