Morning accident leaves woman from Sarcoxie in serious condition

A woman from Sarcoxie is in serious condition after an accident on Gum Road about two miles north of Reeds around 8:15 this morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident happened when a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva SUV driven by 83-year-old Mary K. Peckham of Sarcoxie struck the towed unit of a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia that had been left parked in the roadway.

The driver of the Freightliner is unknown according to the Highway Patrol.

Peckham was transported to a Joplin hospital in serious condition.
