Two people dead, one jailed following Friday night crash near Monett

Two people are dead and a man is in jail following a crash on Missouri 37 at U.S. 60 in Monett late Friday night.

The Highway Patrol says a vehicle being driven by 19-year-old Rafael Contreras Maldonado of Monett was being pursued by Lawrence County Deputies.

Maldonado ran a red light and struck a vehicle being driven by 53-year-old Larry A. Brock of Crane.

Brock and his passenger, 61-year-old Lydia E. Shorey of Crane, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Maldonado is charged with DWI involving death; felony possession of a controlled substance- cocaine; felony resisting arrest; careless and imprudent driving; no plates, no insurance, texting while driving and no seat belt.

He was taken to the Barry County Jail.
