Joplin awarded forestry grant to improve city parks

(City of Joplin) — Late in 2022, the City of Joplin was notified by the Missouri Department of Conservation of receiving a Community Forestry grant. As part of the MDC Community Conservation Program, this Community Forestry grant is designed to assist communities with promoting the benefits of and improving their community forest.

The City Parks and Recreation Department is utilizing this grant to assist the City of Joplin to update its existing tree inventory of trees in City Parks. Within this work, trees are also being assessed for risk in City Parks, by identifying the structural condition of the trees for potential failure.

MDC has been a strong partner for the City of Joplin throughout the years.

“We appreciate their efforts in helping us maintain our green canopy throughout Joplin,” said Paul Bloomberg, Parks and Recreation Director.

MDC’s Community Conservation Cost-Share Program promotes sustainable development practices and the establishment of natural resource conservation practices in municipal and developing areas.
