Fire causes major damage at north Joplin apartment house

Fire broke out in a north Joplin apartment house early Sunday morning.

The blaze at 114 N. Byers Avenue was reported a little after 3 a.m.

Firefighters were on the scene for almost three hours, spending part of that time keeping the fire from spreading to adjacent structures only a few feet away.

The apartments in the old building were not being rented out.

No one was injured.

No official word yet on the cause of the fire.
