New organization in Joplin works to bolster local environmental cleanup efforts

Conservation efforts are on the rise in Joplin in a big way. Strangewoodz Outdoors is a new organization that is looking to bolster cleanup efforts, support legal awareness, and educate the population about the local ecosystem and wildlife.

Founder and owner Damon Johnson told news outlets he grew up in the area and enjoyed the outdoors but did not have people to teach him about conservation. Johnson noted that he wanted to help leave the local fauna and plant life better and cleaner for the next generation.

Strrangewoodz held their first event at the Tipton Ford Fishing access to the south of Joplin where him and a crew of volunteers removed two and a half poly carts full of trash. After their successful cleanup the team then went for a celebratory exploration mission.

Johnson said it’s his hope the organization grows and expands its reach even toying with the idea of starting several chapters across the state and organizing youth specific outings.

The organization already has two more cleanup events scheduled, one being at Fort Crowder Conservation Area on Sunday, June 4th and the other at Capp’s Creek on Sunday, August 6th.
