A man from Sarcoxie is dead after he was reportedly hit by a train just north of Joplin Christmas night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says it happened around 9:45 PM when 26-year-old Ranon J. Chiles was struck by the KCS locomotive while walking on the tracks just off North Main Street.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.
