New sculpture work to honor victims of Joplin Tornado

New sculpture work to honor victims of Joplin Tornado

A memorial sculpture honoring the 161 victims of the 2011 Joplin tornado  will be unveiled at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30 at the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex in downtown Joplin.

The sculpture will be unveiled by representatives of Active Lifestyle Events, Inc., a nonprofit organization which promotes activities in the community including the Joplin Memorial Run

This sculpture includes the names of those  who lost their lives will be a permanent memorial honoring these individuals.

The family of the victims as well as the Joplin Community are invited for the unveiling.

“This sculpture captures our organization's dream of providing something significant to the community and honors those we lost on May 22nd, 2011," said Audie Dennis, president of Active Lifestyle Events

"It is a fantastic piece of art, placed on the lawn of our arts and entertainment center that will lead our city into the future," Dennis added.
