Commerce police officer injured during high-speed chase

A police officer from Commerce, Oklahoma was listed in critical condition Saturday night in a Joplin hospital after crashing his vehicle into a ditch during a high-speed chase.

39-year-old Vernon Moyer of Commerce was involved in a traffic stop on County Road S 560 just north of Commerce.

The crash reportedly occurred when the brakes failed on his 2018 vehicle during the pursuit, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).
