On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 11:27, hours an individual from the community brought what appeared to be an un-exploded military ordinance to the Webb City Police Department. The individual had found the ordinance while cleaning out a building in Webb City and had left the item in his vehicle on the parking lot of the police department.
Officers with the Webb City Police Department isolated the vehicle and set a perimeter, closing the 200 block of West Broadway and 10 block of North Liberty.
Officers then contacted the City of Springfield’s Bomb Squad and requested that they respond. The Webb City Fire Department and Metro Emergency Transport Services ambulance were called to stage in the area. Officials with the City of Springfield Bomb Squad arrived on scene at about 14:00 hours and determined that the ordinance was inert.
Officials recommend that individuals leave a questionable item in place, evacuate the immediate area, then call local authorities if they find something that appears to be an explosive device.
Police Chief Don Melton then thanked the City of Springfield Bomb Squad, Webb City Fire Department and METS ambulance service for their assistance today. We would also like to thank 1st Choice Gorman Tax Service, Jill’s Deals, & Hot Stone Pizzeria for the lunch they provided for the officers and firefighters while they were on scene
