Joplin man dies from injuries after crash involving sheriff's vehicle

Joplin Police say a man who was seriously hurt during a crash near 32nd and Connecticut last week has died from his injuries.

Police say the crash happened just after 2 a.m. Thursday, July 7, when 44-year-old Ryan D. Hunnell, of Joplin, was riding a motorized bicycle.

The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team says Hunnell was rear-ended by a Newton County Sheriff patrol vehicle in the eastbound lane of 32nd Street. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office says the deputy was responding to a burglary alarm call.

Hunnell died at a local hospital Sunday afternoon.

The crash remains under investigation and further details may be released as they become available.
