Man Sentenced For Robbing, Assaulting Woman At Casino

A man who pleaded guilty to robbing and assaulting a woman at a casino in St. Louis County will spend nine years in prison.

Fifty-nine-year-old Kevin Shumpert entered a “blind Alford” guilty plea back in March – which is when a defendant does not admit guilt but does admit that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict.

In 2019, Shumpert kicked a woman in her legs and repeatedly punched her face before stealing her purse inside a parking garage at the Hollywood Casino in western St. Louis County.

The prosecuting attorney said afterwards that the defendant “gambled that he could rough up a woman and snatch her purse and get away with it, but he lost.”
