Car-train accident near Purdy causes serious injuries Monday afternoon

A car-train accident resulted in serious injuries to a man from Purdy around 4:45 yesterday afternoon on Walleye Road, five miles west of Pierce City.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a northbound 2008 GMC Sierra operated by 50-year-old Joe E. Snyder of Purdy struck a westbound Burlington Northern Train.

The Patrol says Snyder failed to yield. They say the only signal at the track was a wooden warning sign.

Snyder was med-flighted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield in serious condition.

The engineer, 45-year old Matthew Gregorty of Ooolagah, Oklahoma, was not injured.
