Missourian Dies on Hike

Springfield Missouri native Brad Thomas is found dead after taking a fall while hiking along the Buffalo National River.

Rangers were called to the “undeveloped backcountry” of Indian Creek drainage near the Buffalo National River where the 46 year old Thomas was hiking and suffered a 20 foot fall.

Authorities say he fell from a natural rock formation known as the Eye of the Needle, a sight frequented by hikers. Historically the formation has been a hotspot for locals and tourists alike to climb and take photographs.

Upon witnessing the fall nearby hikers sprung into action to administer life saving measures including CPR but were unable to resuscitate him, nor were authorities.

Officials say there have been several similar accidents in the area and advice caution.
