Inmate at Jefferson City Correctional Center Dies

The Missouri Department of Corrections is investigating the death of an inmate at the Jefferson City Correctional Center. 

D-O-C officials announced in a statement that 34-year-old Cowan Midgyett was pronounced dead at 2:04 Tuesday afternoon. 

There is no information yet as to whether he fell ill or was injured. 

An autopsy will be conducted. 

Midgyett was serving a seven-year sentence for two counts of second-degree domestic assault and possession

of a controlled substance from Randolph County.
