Joplin Police to host charity basketball game, partnering for honor run

Running 4 Heroes to honor fallen officers before the game

You’ll have the opportunity to show your support for Joplin Police on Saturday.

First, Joplin Police are partnering with Zechariah Cartledge with Running 4 Heroes Inc. as he has announced he will be in Joplin on Saturday conducting a memorial run to honor recently fallen Joplin Police Officers.

The 13-year-old from Florida runs one mile carrying his flag in honor of each first responder that falls in the line of duty across the nation.

Saturday he will be specifically honoring fallen Joplin Police Corporal Benjamin Cooper and fallen Joplin Police Officer Jake Reed, who were killed during an altercation with a suspect in March.

This memorial run will be open to the public and will take place at 4:30PM and will be held out front of the Joplin High School Sports Complex.

The start/finish of the run will be at the intersection of South Indiana Ave. and E. 21st St.

Police also invite you to stick around afterwards for the annual Guns & Hoses charity basketball game at the Joplin High School between Joplin Police and Joplin Fire.

This game will raise funds for Bright Futures Joplin so students district-wide can have what they need to succeed alongside their peers: adequate nutrition, clothes that fit, sturdy shoes, warm coats, school supplies, backpacks and so much more.

Joplin Police Captain William Davis says you can still donate and show support if you can’t make it Saturday. “They can get a hold us of at the Joplin Police Department, they can donate to the Fraternal Order of Police, the Fire Department, The IAFF…it’s a great charity event.”
