Doug Lawson voted in as Joplin Mayor

The city of Joplin has a new mayor!

Doug Lawson was voted in by his fellow council members Monday evening after the inauguration of three new members, Kate Spencer, Josh DeTar and Mark Farnham.

Lawson won with a vote of 6-3 over Keenan Cortez for the mayoral position.

Cortez was then named mayor pro-tem with a vote of 5-3-1.

Mayor Ryan Stanley did not run for re-election. Neither did council member Anthony Monteleone. Diane Reid Adams was defeated by Farnham in Tuesday’s election.

This comes amid a request for a recount by Brian Evans, who finished 13 votes short of Josh DeTar.

Gary Shaw ran unopposed.
