Joplin Police investigating death after missing persons report

UPDATE #2: Donald Wimer has been identified as the missing person who was found dead in the home at 2201 S. Jackson Ave. The investigation to the fire at 22nd & Empire continues.

UPDATE: Joplin SWAT were called to a home at 22nd & Empire in connection to a person of interest in this death investigation. As they were attempting to get the person to come out of the home, a fire broke out from within the residence. Police then heard a single gunshot wound a short time later. Once the fire was put out, they found a man dead inside. No names have been released.

A death investigation is underway after a missing persons report. Read the full press release below:

On Wednesday, March 30th, 2022 the Joplin Police Department received a report of a missing person and initiated an investigation.

On Thursday, March 31st, 2022, the missing person was located deceased at a residence at 2201 S. Jackson Avenue in Joplin.

Detectives with the Joplin Police Department are actively conducting a death investigation.

At this time, no information regarding the identity of the victim is being released until next of kin notifications are made. No comment is being made on the cause of the death.

Detectives are actively looking to speak with a person of interest in the matter. No information on that person is being released at this time.
