SEK man in custody following standoff Tuesday

A man from West Mineral, Kansas, is in custody and now faces numerous felony charges after Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to his home early Tuesday morning for a reported domestic disturbance.

As deputies arrived at the residence on Northwest 70th, they learned that 46-year-old Larry Overman was reportedly armed inside the home refusing to allow an adult female and numerous children to leave.

Deputies approached the home and the woman and several children, including an infant, fled from inside. Overman however, remained armed inside with several other kids.

At times during the nearly hour and half standoff, with his children nearby, Overman is alleged to have threatened law enforcement with a rifle.

He was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Cherokee County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $239,000 bond on allegations of Domestic Battery, multiple counts of Aggravated Child Endangerment, Kidnapping and Assault on Law Enforcement.
