19-year-old charged after fatal Coffeyville shooting

A 19-year-old from Coffeyville has been arrested for his alleged role in the shooting death of a juvenile.

The Coffeyville Police Department says it happened at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

They responded to the 200 block of North Walnut Street for a shooting where they located a juvenile gunshot victim from Chanute, Kansas.

The victim was transported to CRMC by EMS and was later pronounced deceased.

Treyvin Xavier Hayes Smith, was taken into custody by the Coffeyville Police Department on Tuesday on recommended charges from the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office as follows:

1. 21-5405(a1)(b1)(A) Involuntary manslaughter; Recklessly:
2. 21-5601(b)(1) Aggravated endangering a child; Reckless situation to child <18:
3. 21-5603 Contribute to child misconduct; Unknown circumstance:
4. 21-5904 Interference with LEO; unknown circumstance; felony:

This is an ongoing active investigation and additional arrests and charges are expected.
