60 dogs rescued from Newton County home

60 dogs have been rescued from a home in Newton County.

On Tuesday, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at 22489 Aspen Road in Sarcoxie. Sheriff Chris Jennings says that warrant was for the seizure of a large amount of dogs that were not being cared for at that location.

Last week, the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about the dogs not being cared for. While investigating, they located approximately 60 dogs that were in poor general condition. Sheriff Jennings says they lacked proper shelter, food and water.

For the last several days deputies have fed and watered those dogs. Unfortunately two of those dogs died shortly after officials began trying to care for them.

Sheriff Jennings says the carcasses of several dogs were located that had been burnt. It is believed that they died in fires that occurred at the residence recently. Several cats were also rescued at the scene.

The Humane Society of Missouri, based out of St. Louis, came to the scene with workers and equipment to help with the animal rescue. The animals will be now taken to St. Louis for treatment and care.

Charges are pending.
