Manure spills from truck on I-249 causing cars to slide off the road

Clean-up crews worked through much of early Saturday evening to restore normal traffic flow to I-249 after a truck from Arkansas lost much of its load of cattle manure in the northbound lane near the Zora exit.

The spill of several thousand pounds of manure took place shortly before 5 p.m.

In all, up to six vehicles slid off the road when they hit the greasy, smelly mess going at or near full highway speed. At least one car overturned.

No injuries were reported.

Crews from the Carthage, Diamond and Duenweg Fire Departments along with Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Duenweg Police responded.

One driver said,  “I thought I was ready for anything but I wasn’t ready for this.”
