Do you have an extra $1.1 million dollars? If so, you could get into the restaurant business.
That's the asking price for Chicken Mary's at 1133 E. 600th Street in Pittsburg.
Chicken Mary's, which opened in the 1940s, and its rival Chicken Annies, which opened in the 1930s, are institutions in the fried chicken business in southeast Kansas.
Chicken Mary's remains open.
Both began by offering meals in the days when mining made up a major part of the area's economy.
Both have secret recipes and carry storied pasts intertwined with a rivalry that lives on to the present day.
