Crash kills one, critically injuries another

Parsons police reporting one dead and one injured following a single vehicle crash on Tuesday night.   

The accident happened when a car driven by Harold Whetzel hit a tree and burst into flames. 

The fire was put out before firefighters arrived by a local neighbor.   

The driver reported the accelerator stuck causing the wreck.   

A passenger, Bette Whetzel,  was critically injured.  

Both were taken to a Parsons hospital with the driver transferred to a Tulsa hospital where he died.   

The passenger was taken to a Joplin hospital and remains in critical condition.
