Two bicyclists injured on River Road south of Joplin

Two bicycle riders were seriously injured just after 6:30 Wednesday evening while riding on River Road in Newton County, about a mile south of Joplin.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a westbound car driven by a 17-year-old female juvenile from Joplin turned into the eastbound lane and struck the eastbound bicyclists.

55-year-old Gregory Wall and 60-year-old Steven L. Mahurin, both of Joplin, were ejected from their Trek bicycles.

They suffered serious injuries and were taken to Joplin hospitals for treatment.
