Butterfly sign stolen from Joplin business

The owners of a Joplin business recently discovered that its colorful butterfly sign had been stolen.
The steel sign was at Stogey’s Coney Island at 2629 E. 7th Street.
Manager Christy Waggoner reportedly purchased the sign in memory of her mother who died in Joplin’s 2011 tornado.
The butterflies have become synonymous with recovery from the storm, which killed just over 160 people.
Just after the tornado, stories began to circulate about children seeing huge butterflies protecting people or flying souls to Heaven.
Waggoner says she hopes the person who stole the memorial butterfly will bring it back.
