Body found after man jumps into water while fleeing police

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City police say a body recovered from a creek is that of a man who jumped into the water while fleeing from officers.

Police spokesman Jacob Becchina says officers responded to calls about a man with a gun near Brush Creek Thursday evening.

When the man saw police, he jumped into the creek and immediately began struggling. An officer jumped in to help but couldn't reach the man before he went under the water.

A search Thursday evening was unsuccessful.

Becchina on Friday identified the man as 38-year-old Terrel B. Murray. He said Murray involved in the disturbance calls and he was also wanted on an unrelated felony warrant.
