Two from Joplin dead after Saturday night crash

Two people from Joplin, including a young boy, have been identified as the victims of a one-vehicle crash Saturday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that 50-year-old James Uitts was traveling south on Route NN, 3 miles south of Joplin, when the van he was driving went off the road, hit a ditch, struck a telephone pole, overturned and then hit some trees.

He and his 8-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
