Informational Meeting to be conducted on Thursday about National Register of Historical Places and nomination of Memorial Hall

The meeting will be held in the Joplin City Hall Council Chambers

An informational meeting to learn more about the National Register of Historical Places and the nomination process for Memorial Hall will be held tomorrow, May 6, at 5:30 PM.

The event will take place in the Council Chambers at Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main Street.

From a City of Joplin News Release, “This meeting offers an opportunity for citizens to hear about the findings and research of the Memorial Hall nomination including the presentation of the nomination and the report for the National Register nomination. Matthew Pearce with Preservation and Design Studio, LLC of Oklahoma City, will provide the information, and a question and answer session will follow the presentation.

Memorial Hall was built in 1925 as a war veteran memorial to honor the men and women who gave their lives for our freedoms. It has served as the mainstay to welcome home our soldiers and still provides a gathering place for veterans’ activities and meetings. Through the years, citizens attended concerts, plays, sporting events and community programs in this facility.

The City recently completed a Memorial Hall Study that focuses on the future use of this facility. The informational meeting on May 6 focuses on the historic preservation process and is separate from the Memorial Hall Study. “
