Sports announcer apologizes for racist comments

In Norman Oklahoma, a high school basketball announcer has apologized for racist comments he made when a team kneeled during the national anthem last Thursday.

National Federation of High School (NFHS) network announcer Mike Rowan, thinking his microphone was off, directed hate speech, including the N-word, toward the team that kneeled.

Rowan released a statement saying he has Type 1 diabetes, and during the game, his blood sugar level was spiking.

He says when that happens, he becomes disoriented and often says things that are not appropriate.

Rowan has issued an apology to the teams, families, coaches and schools.

Even so, the NFHS has decided to cut ties with Rowan and his broadcasting team.
