Joplin makes offer to GM for battery factory

The city of Joplin is aiming to bring General Motor’s new battery factory to town. Joplin Chamber of Commerce President Toby Teeter says the city is offering a $200 Million package of incentives and savings for the factory.
Teeter making that proposal public Tuesday, saying it would provide 1,000 jobs. The offer highlights a 1,042-acre site at 50% discount compared to competing markets as well as 100% tax abatement for 12 years.
It’s a similar proposal to the one made to Tesla for their new plant last year which also cites tax incentives, low median wages, experienced battery engineers, and being a good location for transportation, among other things.
