Legislation to help homeless people in Oklahoma City passes in the House of Representatives.

The bill heads to the Oklahoma Senate next.

Yesterday, The Oklahoma House of Representatives passed legislation to assist the homeless community in Oklahoma City.

House Bill 1772 by Oklahoma Representative Rep. Lonnie Sims, directs the State Board of Health to allow snow cone stands that serve hot beverages to remain open year-round

The bill was requested by a local charity that provides jobs for people who are homeless, according to Sims.

If bill 1772 becomes the law, the charity would be able to operate the stand year-round and assist Oklahomans who need a stable path to make money while experiencing homelessness.

The Curbside Chronicle is a program of the Homeless Alliance, an organization working to end homelessness in Oklahoma City.

The bill still, co-authored by Senator Adam Pugh, now heads to the Senate.
