Victim identified after Joplin house fire

A 60-year-old man has been identified as the victim of an apparent house fire in Joplin on Tuesday. Read the press release from the Joplin Fire Department below:

On Tuesday, 23 February 2021, at 4:14 PM, the Joplin Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 223 S Galena Ave. The first crew arrived to find a single-story structure with smoke and flame showing.

Crews called for a second alarm and then attacked the fire, extinguished it, and then checked for any fire extension. The fire was declared controlled at 4:43 PM. Crews remained on scene until 7:54 PM.

The Joplin Fire Department responded with 9 units and 24 personnel. The Fire Department was assisted by METS Ambulance Service and the Joplin Police Department. One deceased person was discovered in the structure and was removed by the coroner.

The victim was 60-year-old Neal Fiscus.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
