New law requires enhanced training for Missouri law officers

A law that took effect on New Year’s Day requires all law enforcement officers in the state to complete de-escalation and implicit bias training each year if they want to keep their licenses.

It consists of two separated one-hour training sessions.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson, himself a former law enforcement officer, says the new standards will provide officers with up-to-date-training as they interact and communicate with the public.

The Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission approved the training last October.
