One in custody, other being sought after escaping Ottawa County Jail

One inmate is in custody and authorities are still searching for the other after the two escaped from the Ottawa County Jail Thursday morning.

Police say that 23-year-old Justin Eby and 38-year-old Jerry Nichols faked illnesses to get out of the jail facility.

The manhunt even forced Miami Public Schools to move to virtual learning for the day in an abundance of caution.

Eby was arrested last March for shooting at an officer during routine traffic stop. Fortunately there were no injuries in that shooting. Nichols was arrested in May for Endangering others while attempting to elude police and other charges.

Eby was taken into custody around 9:30am. Nichols ran from the police during a chase, and authorities are still searching for him.
