The resident returned home to discover their residence was being burglarized at that time, and in the process surprised the intruder who then began to flee the scene on foot. A description of the burglar was provided to law enforcement officers who were responding to the scene. While en route to the scene, a detective observed the burglar going into another residence on that same block. Officers then went to the residence the burglar was seen going into, resulting in the burglar fleeing out the back door. A brief foot pursuit then ensued, but the burglar was apprehended shortly thereafter and was taken into custody without further incident.
59–year–old Gary L. Murphy, of Pittsburg, was arrested for one count of felony burglary to a residence, one count of misdemeanor theft, one count of misdemeanor criminal damage, and one count of felony interference with law enforcement. When Mr. Murphy was apprehended, items belonging to the victim were located on his person. Those items were then returned to their rightful owner by officers.
