Pittsburg Police ID shooting victim; investigation continues

Police in Pittsburg have identified the man who was found shot dead inside an RV Wednesday morning. Read both updates below:

The deceased in this incident has been identified as 58-year-old Mark L. Owens, of Pittsburg. At the time of this incident, Owens was staying in a makeshift recreational vehicle at the Four Oaks RV Park, located at 721 W. 20th St. in Pittsburg.

Owens appeared to have suffered a single gunshot wound, and yesterday afternoon his body was sent to the pathologist’s office in Kansas City for autopsy.

On Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at approximately 6:36 a.m., officers from the Pittsburg Police Department, along with Pittsburg Fire and Crawford County EMS were called to the Pittsburg Park and Recreation RV Park, located at 721 W. 20th Street in Pittsburg in reference to an unresponsive man. As Officers arrived on scene, they discovered a male subject who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The area was secured and members of the Criminal Investigations Division responded. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown at this point, and the investigation is currently underway. The body will be sent for autopsy.

The investigation into this incident is continuing.
