First COVID-19 death reported in Jasper County

The Jasper County Health Department says a man in his 70s is the first to die from COVID-19 in the county. Officials say he tested positive for the virus on June 10.

The county has seen an increase in cases over the last couple of weeks with a total of over 407 cases since the pandemic began. There are currently at least 211 active cases of COVID-19 in the county.

Most continue to be clustered around the Carthage area but the health department says there are increases county-wide.
