Semi-truck driver sentenced for leaving scene of accident that killed Joplin girl

A semi-truck driver who hit and killed an 8-year-old girl from Joplin then left the scene of the accident in September of 2018 has been sentenced to four years in prison.

50-year-old Lance Lee of DeKalb, Illinois, was traveling east on Newman Road when his semi hit Destiny Chambers as she was running across the road to get on her school bus.

Lee did not stop, telling investigators that he thought he hit a mailbox and did not want to get a citation by stopping. He was found by Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers in Strafford a short time later.
