Homeless man charged after hitting Springfield Police Officer

“You guys knew you had this coming”. Those the words of a homeless man who apparently intentionally hit a Springfield Police Officer with his SUV Tuesday.

Jon Routh now faces first degree assault and armed criminal action charges after police say they confronted him as he was driving around the Police Headquarters parking lot in circles. He had gotten upset that he was asked to leave the HQ before coming back in his SUV.

He was also seen peeing on the department’s locked doors before Officer Mark Priebe confronted him. That’s when Routh rammed the vehicle into Officer Priebe, who was dragged until he hit a barrier just outside the building.

Routh was then shot by a nearby officer and taken to a local hospital. Priebe is still hospitalized as he recovers from serious injuries

Routh also told investigators that he was mad because “the whole campaign is to scare the [bleep] out of me.” He added that he has been harassed mentally by people that law enforcement were using to target him.
