U.S. Supreme Court won’t hear death row appeal from Springfield man

The U.S. Supreme Court will not hear an appeal from a man from Springfield who is on death row for killling a 10-year-old girl.

Craig Wood was convicted of kidnapping, raping and murdering Hailey Owens in 2014. The jury couldn’t decide whether to sentence him to death or to life in prison without parole.

Last year, “Hailey’s Law” took effect in Missouri, which requires the state’s Amber Alert System Oversight Committee to meet at least once a year. It also allows alerts to be issued faster by local police.
