Man dies from injuries in fire near 44th and Range Line

A 72-year-old man has died from injuries he sustained in a fire near 44th and Range Line Wednesday morning. Read the full press release from the Redings Mill Fire Protection Distric below:

A 911 call was received for a possible vehicle fire in the area of 44th and Range Line Road. The first units dispatched were Joplin Fire Department, Joplin Police Department and Newton County Ambulance. When units arrived at 7:39am, a male subject was located outside of the vehicle with obvious injuries due to exposure to fire. There was light smoke remaining in the vehicle.

Immediate treatment was provided to the patient. Redings Mill Fire Protection District was notified of the incident at 7:39am and responded to what was given as a structure fire. We arrived to find the scene under control and Newton County Ambulance beginning transport of the patient.

The vehicle is a Commercial Freight vehicle converted into a living space. The occupant was utilizing a radiant space heater to warm the living space. Due to the injuries of the occupant, the Missouri Department of Fire Safety was requested to assist in the investigation. The cause of the fire and the injury to the occupant is listed as accidental caused by heating equipment to close to flammable material.

UPDATED INFORMATION

A 72-year-old male has succumbed to injuries sustained from the fire that occurred on October 30th. Names of those involved are not being released at this time.

This is a very sobering reminder to properly use heating equipment and to always have a working smoke detector in any form of area that will be occupied.
