Retired JPD K9 Gunner Crosses Rainbow Bridge

Retired Joplin Police K9 Gunner has crossed the rainbow bridge after an incredible life and an incredible career.
Gunner, a Belgion Malinois, was 13 years old and served the Joplin Police Department for seven years, spending his entire career with his handler Captain Nick Jimenez. Upon retirement in 2015, he lived out his days taking it easy and just being a normal dog with his handler’s family.
Over the years Gunner was an all-star! Locating thousands of pounds of drugs, searching more than a thousand vehicles, assisted in dozens of SWAT operations, and apprehended numerous suspects.
K9 Gunner recently developed some health issues and passed away Tuesday night surrounded by his family.
“During his time with JPD, Gunner located the following:
311.7g of Cocaine
506,260.1g of Marijuana
1,131.65g of Methamphetamine
He also responded to 263 alarm calls, had 132 officer assists, 27 public demonstrations, was involved in 26 SWAT operations, conducted 56 tracks, searched 1,064 vehicles, and had 17 suspect apprehensions.”
K9 Gunner will be missed by all!
