Council votes 6-2 against Boomtown Shopping Center TIF

There will be no Menards in Joplin... for now. The City Council has voted down the proposal for a TIF (Tax Increment Finance) District for the proposed Boomtown Shopping Center, which included the home improvement store. The TIF would have helped with the development's building cost. The council's main issue is to how the developer was going to repay the TIF. This project was also proposed to have brought a movie theater, gas station and grocery store to Hammons Blvd in the southeast part of town.
