Equipment Failure And Car Wreck To Blame For Power Outage

A car wreck in Carthage was partly to blame for a massive wide spread power outage across northern and central Jasper County Tuesday night spanning from Asbury to Carthage. Liberty Utilities-Empire District Electric officials say someone had hit a utility pole. In addition, there was also an equipment failure at one of their substations. Line crews worked into the night and finally had power restored to about 2,000 customers at 3:30 Wednesday morning.

KZRG is working to get more details on that car accident, as well as the issue at the substation.
